On the face of the coin (averse), on its upper side the state emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan is located and under it there is a two-line inscription "50 ТЕҢГЕ". From the right and left side of the denomination there is the element of national ornament. On the circumference there is the legend "ҚАЗАҚСТАН YЛТТЫҚ БАНКI" (National Bank of Kazakhstan).
On the back side of the coin, on its central part there is an image of a porcupine . On the circumference there is the legend with the name of the coin "ҮНДІ ЖАЙРАСЫ" in Kazakh language and "HYSTRIX LEUCURA SATUNINI" Latin name of the bird.
