If you want to see, the picture of the backside, just mail to: collectitcoins@outlook.com And ask for backside; 1095 ------------------- This cathedral has a huge history, has suffered several damages, like firings , pirate's attacks (1666 and 1670) hurricanes and earthquakes (1678, 1766, 1852 and 1932), has been reconstructed and modificated several times, last one on 1813. This is the reason for the "official" date of 1816, as last time was completed. Originally was named as parochial church of Santiago de Cuba village (Iglesia Parroquial de la villa de Santiago de Cuba), or St. Catherine hermitage (Ermita de Santa Catalina). On 1522 is declared cathedral and first building was completed on 1526; on Jan. 16th. 1986, is declared as National Monument. Front wall has been modified and changed several times, and how shows 2 big statues, one of Padre de las Casas - Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, who was a Spanish priest strong defender of the natives rights, and the other of Cristobal Colon, discoverer of America on 10/12/1492, and discovered Cuba island 15 days later, on his first voyage. Back wall has been kept with the original design.
