On July 1 2011, for the first time in history, Poland took over the presidency in the Council of the European Union. From the point of view of Poland’s membership in the European Union this is the most significant moment since our accession.
The presidency of the Council of the European Union is not only a great challenge requiring strategic planning and extensive political and organizational activity both at the domestic and European level, but also a unique opportunity of direct participation of Poland in the shaping of the future actions of the European Union.
On the one hand, the presidency offers a greater impact on the decisions taken in the EU and gives us an opportunity to present our political priorities in forum of the European Union, place emphasis on the most important issues and propose our own ideas and initiatives. On the other hand, it obligates us to continue the previous activities of the Union, ensure its coherent functioning and guarantee that its voice is heard in the debate on the most important world issues. The success of the presidency is the best promotion of the country and an opportunity to reinforce the positive image of Poland worldwide.
