Poland 10 Zlotych 2009 General Election of 1989 - Silver

Wybory 4 czerwca 1989 r., były pierwszymi wyborami parlamentarnymi w PRL, jakie odbyły się bez przymusu i fałszerstw. Efekt kontraktu zaskoczył obie strony – zdobycie przez „Solidarność” 35% miejsc w Sejmie, czyli wszystkich, które wcześniej przeznaczono dla kandydatów opozycji i 99% miejsc w Senacie, nielimitowanych w umowie. Wydarzenia 1989 r,. których symbolem stał się 4 czerwca, budzą do dziś namiętne spory wśród historyków i polityków. Dla jednych – to milowy krok w stronę demokracji, zwycięstwo rozsądku i kompromisu po obu stronach ówczesnej sceny politycznej (władza-opozycja). Dla innych – krok wymuszony, podyktowany widmem krachu gospodarczego i zmianami w bloku sowieckim, a zarazem szansa na przejęcie władzy przez część elit solidarnościowych, bez legitymizacji ze strony całego społeczeństwa. W rezultacie powstał nowy układ parlamentarny i rządowy, rodziła się III Rzeczpospolita. Pierwsze, prawdziwie wolne, pięcioprzymiotnikowe wybory odbyły się w 1991 r. Above the eagle there is an inscription: 10 ZŁ. A semicircular inscription at the top: RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA and the year of issue: 2009. There is the mint mark under the eagle’s left leg. Reverse: To the left there is an image of Pope John Paul II holding a crosier, against a crowd. Above the crowd there is an inscription: SOLIDARNOŚĆ, being an exact representation of the NSZZ “Solidarność” graphic sign, in red and in various shades of grey. An inscription above: 1979/1989. A semicircular inscription at the top: „NIECH ZSTĄPI DUCH TWÓJ! I ODNOWI OBLICZE ZIEMI; An inscription an the bottom: TEJ ZIEMI!”. Coin designer: Urszula Walerzak
