The commemorative coin with the face value of 2 hryvnias is dedicated to Igor Ivanovich Sikorsky, a pioneer of aviation, designer of aircrafts and helicopters, an industrialist. When studying at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (1907-1914) he set to work on development of the first helicopters to be. From 1910 Igor Sikorsky constructed aircrafts. The first multi-engine aircrafts in the world - `Le Grand`, `Ilya Muromets`, `Russky Vityaz` - were of his design. Being a native of Ukraine, Igor Sikorsky became well-known all over the world as one of the most famous aircraft designers.
On the obverse there are: the image of Ilya Muromets aircraft, as for its development in 1913 Sikorsky became well known all over the world; above, against the relief background, the semicircular inscription Національний банк України (National Bank of Ukraine) and the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine thereunder, below - the coin issue year 2009, face value 2 ГРИВНІ (2 hryvnias) and the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.
On the reverse there is a portrait of Sikorsky dressed in the airman uniform; to the right, against the background of Leonardo da Vinci`s drawing, there is the bow-shaped inscription: ІГОР СІКОРСЬКИЙ (Ihor Sikorskyi) together with indication of the years of his life: 1889-1972.
