The coin is dedicated to 200 Years since the birth of Mykhailo Ostrohradskiy (24.09.1801-01.01.1862), an outstanding Ukrainian scientist-mathematician, a member of five Academies (Paris, St-Petersburg, Rome, Turin and USA) who was born in Pashenivka villiage of Poltava region. His main works are dedicated to mathematical analysis, theoretical mechanics and mathematical physics.
On the coin reverse there is a portrait of Myhkailo Ostrohradskiy; to the left there is the fractional and rational function integral (the integration method of such functions is named after him), to the right there is a half-circular two-line inscription:1801-1862, МИХАЙЛО ОСТРОГРАДСЬКИЙ.
On the coin obverse at the centre there is depicted a set of integral curves in the frame of reference, as well as the small National Emblem of Ukraine, a four- line inscription: УКРАЇНА, (Ukraine) 2001, 2, ГРИВНІ (2 hryvnia), and the Mint logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine.
